I’ve flaked on here again since the big move. Life just got too hectic for a bit. Sky had two weeks off following our move home before he started his new job this week and holy crap it was a whirlwind 2 weeks! We spent 24 hours in the car in 2 days, then once we got here we have been super busy re-connecting with all of our family and friends. We also spent some time finding a Midwife and a hospital to have this baby…in 6 weeks!!! A couple of our friends got married so we got to catch up with people we haven’t seen in way too long. It’s been nice! But boy are we exhausted. Oh and to top it all off we got kicked in the face with terrible pollen allergies. Ugh! It has been miserable!
This week with Skyler starting his job, life is finally starting to settle back into a routine – thank goodness! I have gotten back on track with my online photography classes and wanted to get back to blogging, so Photo Friday seems like a good place to start. Back in MA, I took the following two photos practicing backlighting in the first two weeks of a course called Natural Light with Atmosphere. I was working with using flare and haze to enhance a photo and create the mood I was going for, so it was a lot of fun. The difficult issue I was running into there though was that I only knew Skyler and he was working all the time and/or the weather wouldn’t cooperate on his days off so rather than practicing daily like I would have like to, I was shooting like once a week and hoping I would get something I liked.
That being said, one week I was able to practice with a girl Skyler worked with and her husband. They are also expecting their first child and her mom was wanting to see some maternity photos of her so she agreed to let me practice on them and I sent her a few of the photos. I was super disappointed with her entire shoot though. I was so nervous since I didn’t know them and I was trying to work with new techniques and I still don’t feel adequate in directing people to pose. Pretty much nothing went the way I had hoped it would. So, I did submit this photo for week one. There is lots wrong with it (the lack of proper focus being a big one), but it was a good learning process for me, which was the purpose I suppose.
I was happier with how this next one turned out. I took it the morning my assignment was due because I hadn’t captured anything earlier in the week that I liked. I took it early in the morning and I feel like you know that by looking at the image. The haze lends itself well to the serene, early morning calm beach scene. And it’s definitely a lot easier photographing a stationary subject than trying to direct a person/people!
I’m hoping to work daily blogging back into my routine again this week. The class I’m currently taking is super time consuming, but I plan to try to make time for catching up on here too. It would be so nice to end this year caught up with my writing and maybe even a nice (much overdo) facelift to the blog! I have all these great ideas but haven’t been able to implement them yet because I am so far behind. With a kid on the way, life should slow down, right??? LOL No?! Well…
