Tombstone

After spending the morning touring Mission San Xavier del Bac we headed about an hour and a half south to the Old Western town of Tombstone, AZ. Skyler was so pumped to check out the gun-slingin’ town of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday! I couldn’t even tell you how many times he quoted, “I’m your huckleberry” that day. Haha!

We knew in advance it was going to be a very touristy town packed with gift shops, saloon girls, and gun-slingin’ reenactments. But to be honest, it was more than chintzy. The gift shops were so antiquated and sparse. There were lots of them, but they all carried the same minimal fake cowboy junk. And not fun touristy type junk…mostly just junk junk.

We didn’t actually attend any reenactments or shows, so I can’t say one way or the other on those. We just wandered the streets for a little bit and decided we had our fill of this tourist trap. I don’t mean to be so harsh, I mean it was cute enough…but I honestly wouldn’t recommend making a special trip just to visit Tombstone. If you’re in the area, sure, check it out. But otherwise it’s nothing special – at least we didn’t think so.

Regardless, we had a fun afternoon being silly and taking in the sites. We started off with a tasty Sarsaparilla sold by this cute old man.

We also peaked into a couple of the cute ‘ole saloons.

Of course we checked out all the biggies like the O.K. Corral

And the Bird Cage Theatre

I had to take this picture because Sky’s first name is Bronc…his dad was a true cowboy.

Overall, we had a great day. We ended Mom’s last night in Phoenix with a nice steak dinner on our back patio…perfect!
