Phoenix

Phoenix to San Diego

Phoenix is such a clean, nice town…but man is it hot as hell during the summer! I’m pretty sure my flip flops melted to the asphalt when I walked to the car! We  had a great second/last day in Phoenix though! We lounged by the pool for a couple of hours and both took a much needed nap under the sun. Then we cleaned up and went out to dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery at the Desert Ridge Mall. To our pleasant surprise, we showed up during happy hour so we got a nice cheap dinner & beer and got to see a little piece of Phoenix. This is such a cool mall! I wish we had more time to check it out; but it was too hot, and we wanted to get back to the hotel. We stayed at an Embassy Suites and they have an evening manager’s reception with complimentary beverages for 2 hours, and we weren’t about to miss out! So we indulged in the free drinks and then both passed out from exhaustion at like 8:00!

We had planned on leaving Phoenix sometime in the early afternoon on Sunday; but we were both up early anyways and were excited to see Jeff and Sheri, so we got up at around 7:30 and hit the road by 10:00. This ended up being the only stint of the trip that we didn’t make good time. The speed limit for about half of this treck was 55mph for vehicles pulling trailers…so it slowed us down big time! It was definitely cool to see the fence dividing US & Mexico though! It was also interesting going through the border control check points. A new experience for the both of us!

We pulled into San Diego around 2:30pm on Sunday, and went straight to check in to the hotel. Big problem there…no parking for our trailer! They were very helpful though and figured something out for us and let us take up several parking spaces to make it work. We had a great and very eventful time in San Diego, and can’t wait to go back in the next couple of weeks when Sky gets a few days in a row off work.

Here is a cool picture of the mountains from this part of the drive:

Little side note…apparently I can’t take a picture of the ”Welcome to State” signs to save my life. I missed every single one on this trip. From now on, we’re going to have to actually stop on the side of the road to get the pictures. I came up with a great idea to do a scrapbook with all 50 “Welcome to….” State signs. So from now on…we are definitely pulling over to get the shot! Here is the closest I got the entire road trip.

Pitiful huh?
